Tank Replacement

If your oil storage tank is more than 15 years old, you shouldn’t put off replacing it. Heating oil spill sand leaks are costly to clean up. If you’re unsure about the age or state of your tank, check for rust, dents and weeping or wet spots, and look for signs of drips or leakage around supply and return lines, and around the fill and vent pipe.

Keep in mind that most all-steel fuel tanks will rust from the inside first, the result of moist air forming condensation inside the tank. Outdoor tanks are even more prone to this condensation, thanks to daily temperature fluctuations. In addition, the sludge that accumulates on the bottom of steel tanks can accelerate corrosion.

New tanks are made from materials that resist corrosion, such as galvanized steel, and often are lined with a rustproof, noncorrosive material, like polyethylene. Many are designed to eliminate odors when refilling, as well. Most importantly, new tanks meet strictest safety environmental and fire-safety standards.

Pallett installs leading brands and we can help you choose the right size for your home-heating needs. And we offer tank protection with our great Home Comfort Plans, which includes annual tank inspection and maintenance.

Abandoned Oil Tank Abatement

Pallett Heating and Cooling is your Tank Abatement Specialist! If you have a tank that you no longer use, we can essentially make it disappear!

Under-Ground Tanks

Because you can’t see the Under-Ground tank, you may not be concerned. “Out of sight, out of mind.” However, just because you can’t see the tank, doesn’t mean that it should not be addressed. Abandoned Under-Ground tanks can lead to dangerous conditions. Over time, as the tank deteriorates, it could collapse underground and create a dangerous situation. Depending on the condition of the tank, if there are any holes or cracks, water could seep in and eventually fill the tank. This could lead to even more deterioration and cause hazardous conditions, not to mention the environmental implications if there was any product remaining in the tank.

In the past, there were two methods of tank abatement:

  1. Completely unearth the top of the tank, cut it open and then fill with a sand product.
  2. Using heavy machinery and equipment completely dig up and remove the tank, either leaving a giant hole in your yard or incurring the expense to have dirt hauled in to fill the hole.
At Pallett, we have invested in specialized equipment used to abate abandoned Under-Ground Tanks. This equipment enables us to fill your tank with noncorrosive Tripolymer® foam, which conforms to the shape of your tank as it expands and hardens, absorbing any and all residual petrochemicals. The foam is installed by inserting a specialized hose through the existing fill-pipe. Therefore, no heavy equipment is required. Your property will be completely undisturbed. No digging!! No mess!! Upon completion, the fill-pipe will be cut off below ground level and removed. You will never know that a tank was there.

Above-Ground Tanks

We offer Above-Ground Tank Removal. We pump out and properly dispose of any remaining product in the tank and completely remove the tank from your property.

If you have a tank that is longer in use, call us and we would be glad to answer any questions you may have or to assist in the tank removal.

Whole-House Humidifiers

Pallett Heating and Cooling sells and installs a broad selection of whole-house humidifiers in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Portsmouth.

A whole-house humidifier can add much-needed moisture to the air in your home, especially in winter, when overdry air can cause lots of problems for your health and your home. Over dry air causes flaky skin and dried-out nasal passages as well as annoying static electricity that causes small shocks when you walk on carpets and makes your hair stand on end. Too-dry air can also ruin fine furniture, causing wood to crack, among other things.

And, adding humidity can make the air in your home feel warmer so you can lower your thermostat and reduce your fuel bills.

The pros at Pallett can analyze your needs and help you choose the best system for your home. We offer a range of the leading brands and can help you choose the right model for your needs.
